First things first—your hair should be totally free of knots and tangles before starting the process. To do finger coils, all you need is some curl-enhancing cream or gel. Twists are a little bit faster to do initially since braiding is a little more involved. While they are beautiful and easy to create, twists require more upkeep and maintenance. Protective styles, like twists and braids, are still great options for all hair types and textures because we tend to be hard on our hair and mistreat it.
So your hair may not grow quicker, but it will grow better. No, twisting hair does not make it grow. In fact, they can be as long as you want them to be. These ones, for example, stop at shoulder length and are perfect to frame any type of face. Contact us. Close Menu.

Thread starter BrownSkin2 Start date Mar 19, BrownSkin2 Well-Known Member. How many packs of hair do you use when doing kinky twists? I made an appointment to get kinky twists and the stylist told me to get 6 packs of Marley Braids hair.
Isn't that too many?? That does seem like too many. I think I have an average size head, never been told its small nor too big I use just under 2 packs, I cut the pack in half, so this is probably 24". I mean if you plan to get them done again, you'll always have the hair on hand. But if you do get 6 packs, and bring them all, keep your hair close to, and hand the pack to the stylist as need.
Shoot, I had a few try to keep my extra hair. But I was like nah uh, where dat hair at? This time, give each strand a single, tight twist before twisting them together. Keep going until you have no more Marley hair to braid.
If the Marley hair is longer than your desired length, simple stop twisting when the rope braid is close to the length you want it to be. After you let go of a finished twist, it will likely spring back a little and feel somewhat loose. The twist is still thick enough to stay in place.
Part 3. Trim off excess Marley hair with scissors or a razor, if needed. The Marley twist may come undone slightly. If this happens, simply find the 2 strands and twist them back into a rope. If you are using scissors, consider cutting at a downward angle instead.
Dip the end into boiling water to seal it. Boil some water first, then take it off the stove. Dip the end of your braid into the water for a few seconds, then lift it out. Avoid touching the wet hair with your fingers, as it will be very hot. Take the hot water off the stove before you dip the hair into it. You only need to dip it in by about 1 to 2 inches 2.
For an added twist, wrap a perm rod around the end of your hair before dipping it into the hot water. Let the hair dry before removing the rod. Repeat the entire process to make more twists. Go back to your large section and undo another 1 in 2. Split it in half and add 2 strands of Marley hair. Twist the hair into a rope braid, then trim the ends. Work 1 section at a time until you are done. This can take up to 16 hours. Consider enlisting a friend to help you. Cover your hair with a chic scarf to disguise the half-finished twists.
Part 4. Wash your twists with diluted shampoo. Get your hair wet in the shower first. Next, pour shampoo diluted with water over it, focusing on the scalp. Massage your scalp with your fingertips, then rinse your hair with water.
Plan on using 8 parts water to 1 part shampoo. You can mix this ahead of time in a large bottle so that you have more for later. If this method makes the twists too heavy, use a spray bottle to apply the water and diluted shampoo instead. How often you wash your hair depends on how fast your scalp gets oily. Let your hair air dry when possible. Use a towel to gently squeeze the excess water from your hair first, then wrap your hair up in the towel for 1 to 2 hours.
Remove the towel, then let your hair finish air drying on its own. The texture of the twists looks really lovely in a bun! You can also leave it as a ponytail, either high up on your head or at the nape of your neck. Fancier styles are also possible with kinky twists!
It might take a bit of practice, but you can shape them into a really gorgeous French twist, or French braid them along the back of your head. To keep the top of your head neat, you can shape the kinky twists into pin curls. The texture of the twists means that all sorts of different ways of shaping them around the head will look just as beautiful!
For an interesting mix of textures, try braiding your hair in cornrows before starting the kinky twists! You can make all sorts of different styles by combining these. There are so many brilliant ways that kinky twists can be styled. Have a look at lots of different inspiration pictures, and then try out whatever you think would work best for you!
Spray leave-in conditioners are great for this. You should also use a natural oil or butter on your scalp times a week. If you wash your hair, you will probably need to braid the twists into sections before you begin to wash your scalp.
